If you have ever bought a box of itching powder? If you have you may have noticed that it is not really a powder but several small silver slivers.
I have found out that the "powder" is actually composed of one ingredient. The ingredient comes from maple tree seeds "whirligigs or helicopters". The silver slivers are only on the seeds in the fall when they are brown and they fall off the tree.
The slivers are located on the hard part not the wing. The only way i know of how to take the slivers off the seed is the following.
1. Get a white sheet of paper and place it on a flat serface
2. Grab two seeds in each hand by the wing with your thumb and pointer finger
3. Have the hard seed part dangle down over the sheet of paper
4. Take the two seeds and rub them together and get as much of the slivers off as possible
5. Then take two more and repeat the steps above until you have as much as you want.
The more they dry out the more powerfull the powder is.
Have Fun!!!
